Often times I’ll hear of a really great piece of art purchased for pennies at a Goodwill store or consignment shop. This scenario generally happen when a senior citizen passes away and the family is left with having to deal with their possessions and decide what to keep and what to give to charity. In one case we were called in to evaluate a collection which the family had no idea of the value or if anything was of any value at all. It turns out there were three fresco paintings on canvas which valued at over $30,000 and we were able to find a client to purchase the work from that estate. It’s always better to check the value of artwork than to wish you had. A word to the wise.
